VESPERS ON THE LĀNAI
Music. Community. Reflection.

Vespers on the Lānai is a casual event which combines great music with an opportunity for spiritual reflection. We host great local bands and intersperse the music with readings and poetry: a chance to think and connect. We explore a variety of musical genres and think broadly so those of any religious tradition or no religious tradition should feel comfortable. Vespers events are typically on the second Friday of certain months from 7-8pm, so check back on this page for updates about what's coming up! The event is free, family friendly, and open to the public. Monetary donations are gratefully accepted and are currently our main funding source for paying our musicians.

EVENT LOGISTICS:

  • Picnics are welcome, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Please bring a lawn chair or blanket for outdoor seating on the grass or adjacent cement area.
  • If it rains, the show will go on...inside! We can easily seat 125 people indoors in our Sanctuary, with any overflow on the narrow, covered lānai which can be wet if the wind is blowing. So if the weather is iffy, please bring along your rain gear and a good dose of patience and understanding. Mahalo!
  • If you feel unwell, please consider wearing a mask (especially if coughing/sneezing). Let's all be mindful of our neighbors' wellbeing (and that of others they'll come in contact with later).

ONLINE VIEWERS: while we are not currently livestreaming Vespers, we will post a video on our website later in the week. Friday, February 14th: AB Road (Acoustic Beatles Tribute)

Introducing the newest evolution of Hawai'i's premiere Beatles tribute band ... AB Road! Having made their debut in this new format in November 2024, the group features the three ukulele masters and vocalists from the beloved group Beat-lele which entertained Hawai'i and beyond with their superb rendition of beloved Beatles songs for the past 11 years: Sonny Aquino, Alastar McNeil, and Nolet Quiason. This stellar trio now carries on the legacy on acoustic guitars with their exquisitely harmonic vocals as AB Road. Enjoy a preview of their sound on YouTube: Here Comes The Sun. We'll also be joined by a special guest who'll provide the evening's readings: former CCU Kailua pastor and Vespers on the Lānai founder, the Rev. Dr. Liz Leavitt! So Come Together and join us on Friday, Feb. 14th, where All You Need Is Love!

Friday Dec 13th: Kupa'āina

Kupa'āina (Simple Island People) brought incredible depth and passion to their music - ranging from reggae with hip-hop influences to love songs. To watch their performance, click here. For more information about the band: www.kupaaina.com
